Dr S Ambika has completed her medical graduation from Stanley Medical College , Chennai in 1996; Diploma in Ophthalmology from Medical Research Foundation in 1999; Diploma of National Board of Examinations in 2000. She underwent special training in Neuro-ophthalmology between 1999-2000 in Medical Research Foundation, a unit of Sankara Nethralaya. She has received the best outgoing post-graduate (DO) award in the year 1999

She is working as a consultant in this department since 2000 & currently she is the Deputy Director of the Neuro-ophthalmology Department . She is also a consultant in Cataract Department and has performed more than 20,000 cataract surgeries including small incision cataract surgeries and phacoemulsification with foldable implants

She is the second author of the book “The Atlas of Neuro-ophthalmology” which is the first Indian Atlas book in this specialty which was published in 2002 .In 2007 she has released the 2 nd edition of the ‘Atlas of Neuro-ophthalmology ‘ along with her Department colleagues .She has participated in various national and international ophthalmology conferences. She has also participated in the American Academy of Ophthalmology as a presenter in 2005

She is now authoring an “Atlas of Neuro imaging in Ophthalmology” which is expected for publication shortly .She is currently running the Department of Neuro-ophthalmology which has 6 trained consultants , under the guidance of Dr Lingam Gopal -Chairman and Director of the team .
