Dr. Bipasha Mukherjee did her under-graduation from Calcutta National Medical College , Kolkata. She underwent Residency training in Ophthalmology at the Calcutta National Medical College & Hospital and Regional Institute of Ophthalmology, Kolkata.

She passed MS (Ophthalmology) from the reputed Aligarh Muslim University in May 1999. She passed Basic Science Assessment conducted by International Council of Ophthalmology, and Diplomate of National Board (Ophthalmology) in November 2000.

She pursued a Fellowship in General Ophthalmology for Six months in Aravind Eye Hospital and Post Graduate Institute of Ophthalmology, Madurai , followed by fellowship in Orbit & Oculoplasty in Aravind Eye Hospitals, Madurai . She has done Cataract Micro Surgery Training (Ratan Tata Fellowship) in Phacoemulsification from Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai. She held the post of Deputy Medical Superintendent and Consultant Ophthalmologist in M.P.Birla Eye Clinic, Kolkata, in collaboration with Aravind Eye Care Systems, from 2001 to 2005. She has been the recipient of the prestigious International Council of Ophthalmology fellowship award in 2003 in Orbit & Oculoplasty, which she chose to do in University Hospital of Limoges, France, in 2003 under Prof. Jean-Paul Adenis, current President of European Society of Oculoplastic & Reconstructive Surgeons. She also did Observership in Moorfields Eye Hospital , London , UK , under MR J.R.O Collins & Mr. G. Rose, as well as in the Ophthalmology Department of Bristol Royal Infirmary, UK . She has attended more than 30 professional meetings, both at the national and international level including the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Plastic & Reconstructive surgery, European Society of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, International Congress of Ocular Oncology. She has given invited lectures in regional and national level conferences. She has many paper and poster presentations and publications to her credit. She joined Sankara Nethralaya as an associate consultant in the Department of Orbit, Oculoplasty & Trauma in July 2005. She is currently the Director of the department since August 2009. Her areas of continued interest include phacoemulsification surgery for cataracts; lacrimal and orbital surgery, cosmetic eyelid surgery, cosmetic rehabilitation of the anophthalmic socket, as also repair of traumatic eyelid and adnexal injuries.

She is actively involved in training postgraduates in ophthalmology and fellows undergoing training in general ophthalmology, phacoemulsification and Oculoplasty; M Phil and PhD students of optometry under Elite School of Optometry, Chennai and BITS, Pilani distance education programs. Her hobbies are photography and travel.
