Dr. Dhanashree Ratra acquired her MS Ophthalmology from Nagpur University in 1993 and DNB Ophthalmology from the National Board of Examinations, New Delhi in 1994. She underwent a vitreoretinal fellowship at the Medical Research Foundation and later joined as a Vitreoretinal Consultant in 1996. She was given the best lady fellow award for the year. She became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons , Edinburgh in 1999. She has papers in peer reviewed international and national journals and chapters in various books. In 1996 she was deputed to set up and stabilize the vitreoretinal department at the Shri Ganapati Netralaya at Jalna. In 2003 she was again chosen to setup the Hospital and the department at The Rotary Narayana Sankara Nethralaya in Kolkata which she managed till 2005 July. She also worked as Specialist Consultant Ophthalmologist at the Apollo Hospital at Colombo .

Areas of special interest: Retinopathy of Prematurity, Endophthalmitis, Newer treatments for choroidal neovascular membrane, diabetic retinopathy.
