DBR is an Ultrasound A-Scan diagnostic procedure, which involves the determination of axial length of the eye (the distance between the anterior part of the eye and the posterior part of the eye).

A-Scan is predominantly performed prior to cataract surgery to calculate the power of the Intra-ocular lens (IOL), which replaces the cataractous lens. The IOL power calculation is also based on the keratometry reading (measures the corneal curvature).

Other applications include
  • High myopia
  • Anisometropia (difference in the refractive error between the two eyes)
  • Nanophthalmos
  • Anterior Chamber Depth measurement in certain types of glaucoma etc
