To enable proper diagnosis of the condition persisting the patient comming in for treatment, a detailed preliminary investigation is a must. The optometrists examine the patient as follows:

Preliminary Investigation

History
  • Present complaints
  • Previous ailments- eye or systemic
  • General health status
  • Family history – eye or systemic
  • Allergies to drugs
  • Vision assessment
  • Slit Lamp Examination
  • Intra-ocular Pressure (the pressure of the eye)
 
 
Based upon the above tests, subjective and objective refraction is done, if necessary. Depending on the clinical findings and the signs presented, diagnosis is made and Management advised.

Then the patient is sent for detailed fundus examination by the Ophthalmologist.
