LASIK is a procedure by which the refractive error of the eye - myopia, hyperopia or astigmatism, is corrected by modifying the curvature of the cornea with LASER.

Optometrists in this department do various tests to help decide whether the patient can undergo laser treatment or not.

The Optometrists do the following:

Pre-operative tests
  • Visual acuity testing
  • Exacting the refractive error of the patient by objective and subjective means Slit lamp examination
  • Keratometry (measurement of corneal curvature)
  • Pachymetry (measurement of corneal thickness)
  • FACT (Functional acuity testing)
  • Corneal Topography (measurement of corneal curvature)
  • Specular microscopy (to know the number and other characteristics of endothelial cells)
  • Aberrometry
  • Based on the above test findings, the Surgeon will decide whether to do the surgery or not

Post-operative follow-ups are also carried over after 1 day, 1 month, 3 months and 6 months. The above-mentioned tests are done except for Specular Microscopy.

Advantages
The refractive correction especially in high powers helps in better clarity in vision than with spectacles or contact lenses.

Remember
Report to the Clinic in case of sudden redness or pain in the operated eye or the other is noticed / experinced if following the surgery.
