The Paediatric Ophthalmology fellowship started in Year 1993. During the year 1993 to 2003 totally 6 ophthalmologists have been supervised & underwent hands on training across the country. Based on the suggestions received from the students and our experience with the programme over this period of time, modifications have been made and in August 2003, In collaboration with ORBIS International the first phase of the SN – ORBIS Paediatric ophthalmology fellowship has been implemented, as the first phase of this project we have trained 14 Ophthalmologists. The Second phase of the SN ORBIS paediatric Ophthalmology fellowship commenced in September 2006. In second phase 9 doctors have been trained and 2 is undergoing the training currently.
In Every Year in the month of April & October two candidates will be selected for the fellowship.
Selection Process:
The selection process involves a multiple choice objective theory examination followed by an interview, usually held on the same day. For the course starting 1st April, the application process starts in January / February and the examination & interview will be March. For the course starting 1st October, the application process starting in July/ August , the examination & interview will be in September.

Introduction to SN protocol and functioning |

Augmentation of OPD skills e.g., History taking, Strabismus Examination and Cycloplegic refraction |

Observing the senior surgeons in clinics & perform surgeries. |

Supervised guidance in Paediatric cataract and strabismus surgeries. |

Interactive Lectures with surgeons. |

Interactive Journal presentation, interesting and difficult cases for discussion will be discussed in every weekly departmental meeting. |

A Log book to be maintained by the fellow which will be evaluated by the Academic Director |
Faculty:
There is a team of seven Paediatric consultants headed by Dr. T S Surendran.
Eligibility:
Candidates who have passed DO/DNB/MS in Ophthalmology from a recognized institute are eligible. Candidates employed elsewhere should produce NO OBJECTION CERTIFICATE from the employer at the time of interview and have the relevant original certificates.
Accommodation:
Residential accommodation will be provided to the out station candidates (Subject to availability) at nominal cost to those who are selected, on twin sharing basis.
Leave:
During the fellowship period the candidate is eligible to take 14 days leave.
Stipend:
Candidates who are admitted to the fellowship shall be eligible for a stipend of Rs. 12,000/- per month.
