Visit of the delegation from Commonwealth Countries
A study group representing various common wealth countries visited Sankara Nethralaya on 19.03.2007. The team was brought together by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). The study group is a part of the delegation that is visiting India to attend the Common Wealth study conference 2007. The theme of the conference is working together for inclusive growth and development. Sankara Nethralaya was chosen by the group as a NGO that is working towards achieving inclusive growth and development. The team comprised of delegates from UK, Australia, West Indies, Canada, NewZealand, Malaysia, Ghana and Srilanka besides delegates from India. The team from Sankara Nethralaya show cased expertise of the Hospital in patient care, community services [specifically teleophthalmology and research].
The delegation then had an informal discussion for over one hour with the Sankara Nethralaya team led by Dr S S Badrinath, Chairman, Emeritus. The delegation showed specific interest in teleophthalmology school screening program and preventive ophthalmology research being undertaken by Sankara Nethralaya. They expressed admiration for the way technology is being used to deliver state-of-the-art patient care at affordable costs by Sankara Nethralaya.
