BS Optometry (Code No. BZA)
Four year degree – three years of academics and one year of Internship. Anyone who has passed the Higher Secondary Examination (XII standard) from the Central/State Board or its equivalent with excellent performance in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics/Biology can apply. Short listed candidates will have to appear for an entrance examination and interview at ESO. Experts and specialists teach various subjects.

This degree will enable those passing
out to become Optometrists who can do the
following:- Correction of refractive errors of the eye and prescription of glasses.
- Designing and fitting of contact lenses, aniseikonic lenses and low vision aids.
- Evaluation of the health status of the eye and visual system and referral of patient to Ophthalmologists and other physicians at the appropriate stage.
- Detection of ocular and related systemic and neurological diseases like cataract, Glaucoma, Diabetic retinopathy, Keratoconus etc.
- Diagnosis and treatment of oculomotor malfunctions.
- Practice Public Health Optometry in Schools, Colleges, Urban Slums and Rural Areas
- Practice Occupational Optometry in Industries.
- Do Optometric Counseling to patients with partial sight, color blindness and hereditary vision defects like Retinitis pigmentosa, Stargardt's disease etc.
- Do vision rehabilitation and follow-up work of discharged patients.
- Participate in public education on ocular hygiene and provide related nutritional and environmental counseling.
- They will however not be permitted to undertake surgery or application of
medicines other than those absolutely required for the discharge of their optometric functions.
