Metastasis is spread of tumor from elsewhere in the body to the eye and can cause loss of vision. Metastatis can be treated with laser, chemotherapy and Brachy Therapy.

Choroidal Melanoma though common in Western population, is rare among Indian population. Sankara Nethralaya has the expertise to do complicated surgical procedures such as total eye wall resection Brachy Therapy that salvages the affected eyes instead of being removed.

The Department is ably supported by the excellent ocular pathology laboratory that aids diagnosis. The Department also has facilities like different types of lasers, vitreo-retinal surgical facilities, Brachy Therapy to treat various vascular tumors of the retina and choroid
