Sankara Nethralaya’s small presence in Bangalore has just got bigger and better. Following a Memorandum of Agreement with the Cauvery Medical Centre, the Ophthalmology unit at the centre will be run by Sankara Nethralaya (a unit of Medical Research Foundation, Chennai).
Cauvery Medical Centre is a state-of-the-art institute offering services in all branches of medicine and Sankara Nethralaya has the distinction of being chosen to provide ophthalmic care at the centre.
Sankara Nethralaya services were inaugurated by Dr. PR Krishnaswamy, Director Cauvery Medical Centre on September, 20, 2009 at a function held at the premises of CMC. Other dignitaries included chief guest Swami Sukhabodhanandaji and Dr. Chandrasekhara Shetty, Chief Technical Advisor, Sight First, Lions Club Foundation, who was the guest of honour.
Sankara Nethralaya, which has its presence in Bangalore since 2003 with out-patient services, has expanded its existing services to include surgery and advanced diagnostics in ophthalmology including ultrasonogram, optical coherence tomography (OCT), laser for retinal conditions, YAG laser etc. Doctors will perform phacoemulsification surgery for cataract, glaucoma surgery and squint surgery besides performing complicated vitreo-retinal surgeries. To offer comprehensive ophthalmic care, Sankara Nethralaya has approximately 13,000 sq feet in the multi-speciality centre. Besides the out-patient area, two state-of-the-art operation theatres have been constructed specifically for eye surgeries.
Eye doctors from Sankara Nethralaya- Chennai, will be based in Bangalore. Besides these doctors, some of Sankara Nethralaya’s foremost doctors from Chennai, including Dr. T.S.Surendran, Vice-Chairman and Director, Paediatric Surgery, Dr. Lingam Gopal, Director Research and one of the foremost Vitreo-retinal surgeons in the country, Dr. Tarun Sharma, Director, Vitreo-retinal services and Dr. Pramod Bhende, Senior Consultant and leading Vitreo-retinal surgeon, also visit the Bangalore centre on a regular basis and offer their services to the people of the city.
The new facility has support services such as state-of-the-art contact lens clinic, and optical services. The optical services dispenses prescriptions with the help of a pattern-less edging machine that traces and cuts the lenses to fit the frame with scientific precision and offers high-quality lenses in a wide range of frames. A scientifically designed contact lens clinic, with special equipments for best contact lens fitting, provides all types of lenses, including cosmetic soft lenses and special vision correcting contact lenses
Computerised Hospital Information Management System has been introduced along with Electronic Medical Records. Medical records will be in electronic format which can be linked and accessed to and from the main hospital in Chennai.
