Dr. L Vijaya is a highly accomplished ophthalmologist with extensive experience and expertise in the field of glaucoma and cataract. She headed the glaucoma department at Sankara Nethralaya for more than twenty years and trained many glaucoma specialists with in the country and elsewhere in the world. Has a remarkable record of academic contributions, has published 178 papers, authored ten chapters, and delivered 180 lectures. As a Principal investigator for the “Chennai Glaucoma Study” a “Follow up of subjects with glaucoma, ocular hypertension and narrow angles” and ‘Chennai Eye Disease Incidence Study’ she has played a pivotal role in the understanding of glaucoma in India. Has been actively involved in various professional organizations, including serving as the President of the Glaucoma Society of India and holding positions in prestigious international committees such as the World Glaucoma Association, Asia Pacific Glaucoma Society.
